What Is an Automobile?
Depending on the definition, an automobile is any wheeled vehicle that seats four or more passengers. Anything more is called a limousine, van, SUV, bus, or SUV. In addition to cars, an automobile can be an unpowered unit of a railroad train. An elevated or subway train, for example, would be considered a passenger carrying vehicle. The following are some examples of what is considered an automobile. Benz's first gas-powered car Karl Benz was born in 1844, and in 1871 founded the Iron Foundry and Machine Shop. During this time, he also began working on new automobile technologies and he patented many of these new inventions. In 1886, he patented a gas-powered engine, which featured a 0.954-liter displacement and an electric coil ignition. Other innovations in this vehicle included a water-cooling system and a gear shifter.
